Event, to include personal commitment from a Children's physician, set for July 21

The Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) will host a conference call July 21 about one Minnesota physician's personal commitment about working to prevent central-line bloodstream infections. All MHA patient safety and infection prevention professionals are invited to join.

The call will take place from 11 a.m. - noon. The phone number to participate in the conference call is (866) 804-3456 (number denotes corrected telephone number). For more information, contact Rachel Blake at (651) 659-1404.

Dr. Rob Payne of Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota will speak about his experiences with bloodstream infections (BSI). A small group of MHA members has been participating in a national "Stop BSI" initiative since April 2009. The project is led by Dr. Peter Pronovost of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

The call will also include:
- an overview of the BSI project by Chris Goeschel, R.N., of Johns Hopkins; and
- highlights from Minnesota implementation successes and barriers by Dr. Kay Schwebke of Hennepin County Medical Center's infection control department.

For more information, contact Rachel Blake, MHA patient safety and quality coordinator, at (651) 659-1404.
