Minnesota depends on the nurses, orderlies, radiation technologists, clerks, cleaners, physicians and many others who keep the state's hospitals running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hospitals ensure that the needed staff members are on hand to help meet the public's critical care needs. With 100,000 hospital employees statewide, it is a challenging task. And demographic factors make it more complex - an aging population is driving up demand at the same time retirements are increasing. Hospitals are working hard both on their own and through MHA to address work force concerns.

Since 2008, Minnesota hospitals have been submitting work force information to MHA's online Workforce Planning tool. This helps hospitals better plan for their current and future work force needs and gives Minnesota an important statewide look at the work force needs for hospitals.
